As a Spurs fan, I’ve got mixed feelings about the transfer window.
Hope.
Hype.
Occasionally heartbreak.
We’ve all seen the clubs that go big – bringing in five new players in a week – only to realise no one knows where they’re meant to be playing come Saturday!
Then there are the quieter windows… where one key signing makes all the difference.
The thing is – it’s not so different in business.
Sometimes we think growth has to mean doing more.
Hiring more.
Selling more.
Posting more.
Spending more.
But often, it’s about the right move – not the most moves.
The best leaders I know are the ones who:
- Know their team inside out
- Understand where the gaps are
- Recruit with purpose, not panic
- Integrate new people carefully so they stick
- Trust their long-term plan over the latest headline
Sound familiar?
Whether you’re looking at your next hire, reviewing your strategy, or wondering whether to ‘make a move’ in your business – it’s worth taking a breath and asking:
Is this a knee-jerk signing, or a strategic play?
There’s a reason the likes of Liverpool (alas, not Spurs!) are so decisive in the transfer market – they know exactly what they want, have researched and prepared their investment extensively and then move with certainty.
The same applies to smart business leaders.
The window’s open… just make sure you’re investing for the right reasons.
