If I asked you, right now, “What are you the best at in your sector?” – could you answer in one sentence?

Most business owners I meet pause for a second. They’ll list a few things. Maybe say, “We’re great at service,” or “We do a bit of everything.”

But here’s the truth: you can’t be the best at and scale ‘a bit of everything’.

The businesses that grow fast – and sustainably – are the ones that focus hard on what they’re genuinely best at… and build systems around that strength.

Think of John Warrillow’s Built to Sell.

His point is simple: if your business relies on you doing bespoke work for every client, you don’t own a business – you own a job.

The magic happens when you:

  • Get clear on your core strength – the thing you do better than anyone.
  • Niche focus – find a niche you can dominate as a specialist (inch wide, mile deep)
  • Systemise it – document it, refine it, teach it.
  • Productise it – turn that strength into a repeatable, teachable process or offer.
  • Delegate it – build a team and structure that can deliver it without you.
  • Scale it – multiply, replicate that offering – across sectors, geographies; etc.

When you do that, you move from firefighting to freedom.

You stop chasing every project and start choosing the right ones.

You build a business that can grow – and maybe even sell – without burning you out.

So… what are you the best at?

And how much of your time, energy, and strategy is actually focused on it?

Because the clearer that answer becomes, the faster your business can move.
