It’s amazing to think that we’re racing towards the end of the first quarter of the year already!

With just a fortnight or so to go until the end of the month, I wanted to take this opportunity to write to you on a couple of levels.

Firstly, to take the opportunity to reflect on the quarter that we’re about to say goodbye to.

What went well – and if so how can you build on this into Q2?

And how can you avoid repeating the things that didn’t go so well as we move into April and beyond?

This is the first of four blog posts between now and the end of the month, designed to focus and build on the positives, address the negatives face-on and think about how you can plan and move your business forward for the rest of this year.

So in the first instance, let’s discuss the elephant in the room – the recession.

We all know businesses that are struggling at the moment – your business may or may not be one of them.

The truth is that as a business-owner, there will always be challenges and obstacles in front of you – and it’s entirely up to you to choose your response in relation to this.

During the original Covid lockdown, I coached many founders and Managing Directors to stay ‘above the line’, using the ‘OAR / BED’ diagram – you can see how this works below.

The business owners that took ownership of the situation, stayed accountable and seized control were in a much stronger position throughout the pandemic, and moving forward, than those who chose to stay below the line and bury their heads in the sand.

It’s crucial to only focus on the elements of your life and business that you have direct control over – worrying about anything else is a waste of your time, resource and energy.

There’s nothing that you could have personally done to prevent the recession that we currently find ourselves in.

But there’s plenty you can do in relation to your business, your team and your attitude in order to navigate your business through it, and safely out of the other side.

I have many tried and tested strategies in relation to these types of challenges – and if it’s an area that you’re currently struggling with then I’d love to share these with you over Zoom, in a free, no-obligation discovery call.
